Sitting on the sheltered south coast, the dazzling white sands and azure waters of Maxwell Beach are straight off a Welcome to Barbados postcard. It's a perfect family beach, and there's a permanent beach volleyball net if you fancy a quick knock-about in the sun.

Surf's up: this is the beach to go if you're a confident swimmer and want to get away from the rest of civilisation for a day. It's a small beach but it's genuinely magnificent, and that Atlantic swell really makes it dramatic. Not one for the kids or nervous swimmers.

One of the safest beaches on the island, Bath Beach is absolutely perfect for a paddle in the sea. Take a wander along the sands to the pretty little waterfall at the north end. Quiet, charming, and definitely one of our favourite beaches in Barbados.
